Probably each of us has once happened to get out of bed with tired and swollen eyes. Unfortunately, in the morning rush we do not find time for a professional treatment at the beautician, but fortunately we can save ourselves with home remedies. What, then, to apply to tired and swollen eyelids? We suggest.

What for tired eyes? Home remedies and proven tricks

The alarm clock is ringing, you have less than an hour left to go out, and your eyes look like after an all-night party? No wonder. Puffy eyelids and “tired” eyesight affect practically all of us, especially on days when we are unable to get a decent night’s sleep. What then to do to make your face look awake and rested?

One of the easiest ways to combat puffiness is to expose your skin to low temperatures. Immediately after waking up, wash your face with ice-cold water, and if you feel this way is not enough, gently run ice cubes over your eyelids. You can also use our favorite trick and place two tablespoons in the refrigerator or freezer every day before bed. When you wake up, apply the cold cutlery to your eyes for a while: reduced puffiness guaranteed!

Natural ways for swollen eyes

If low temperature alone is not enough, try applying one of the highly moisturizing and skin-nourishing substances to your eyelids. For this, you can use one of the products that probably constantly host in your kitchen cabinets. Great for example:

  • oil,
  • avocado oil,
  • coconut oil.

All you need to do is apply a small amount of oil to your eyelids, then rub it in circular motions (but be careful that none of the substance gets into your eyes). To maximize the effect, perform a gentle massage of the skin around the eyes. Remember to always make movements in the direction from the outer to the inner corners. If you find an extra few minutes of free time, find a tutorial on the Internet in the form of a video. The massage will work best when its technique is correct!

Ways to treat tired eyes, or herbs and compresses

A well-known way to care for eyes is to use natural compresses. They were used as far back as our grandparents’ and great-grandparents’ times, and recipes are often passed down from generation to generation. We can use vegetables, fruits, herbal infusions or homemade cosmetics to make compresses. They can work to moisturize, reduce puffiness and nourish the skin around the eyes. Wraps are applied warm or cold, and which option we choose depends primarily on the effect we expect.

Hot or cold eye compress?

A compress used to reduce swelling, caused by fatigue, will work best if it is cold. As we mentioned earlier, low temperature is effective in reducing swelling.

Herbal packs, which are designed to moisturize and nourish the eyelids, can be applied warm. This type of treatment will be very pleasant and help us effectively relax.

How to prepare an effective compress at home? Chamomile for eyes and other compresses

Preparing a homemade eye poultice is a quick and easy task, and we’ve picked out a few of our favorite recipes for these natural beauty products:

1. Chamomile compress for tired eyes

The substances contained in chamomile infusion will not only eliminate puffy eyelids. Chamomile has a brightening and anti-aging effect, and regular use of poultices from this herb has a very positive effect on the appearance of the skin around the eyes. Steam a bag of chamomile under a lid for 20 minutes. Then soak two cotton swabs in the infusion and apply to the eyelids for 15 minutes. The compress should be warm, but not hot.

2. Cold cucumber or potato poultice

A great way to reduce puffiness around the eyes, is to put slices of vegetables on the eyelids. We, for this purpose, recommend using cucumber (the substances contained in it should further brighten the skin under the eyes, which can help us get rid of bruises) or potato (which has an additional moisturizing effect). Chill thin slices of vegetables in the refrigerator or freezer, then apply to closed eyelids for about 15 minutes.

3. Milk poultice for puffiness around the eyes

Substances in milk will nourish and moisturize the skin, constrict blood vessels and soothe irritation. All you need to do is soak two cotton swabs in cold milk, then squeeze out the excess product, and apply the compress to the closed eyelids for about 10 minutes. After removing the cotton balls, rinse the skin with water. Be careful not to let the milk get into your eyes. Note that milk can be allergenic. So if you have very sensitive skin, do an allergy test before using the poultice.

A good, although less natural, way to combat tired eyes is to use moisturizing drops regularly. The problem of dry and bloodshot eyeballs affects us more and more often, as we spend more and more time in front of screens of electronic devices. So it’s worth going to the pharmacy and stocking your home medicine cabinet with proven eye drops.
