TikTok is preparing major changes to its application, as a result of which some users will lose access to one of the main functions offered by the platform. All for security reasons.
TikTok is gaining more and more followers every year and is increasingly rivalling Facebook or Instgram in terms of audience size. Suffice it to mention that monthly the popular platform in 2021 was used by more than 1 billion users worldwide. The application, which has sparked many new trends over the past few years, is most popular primarily among young Internet users under the age of 18. Recall, to create an account on TikTok you must be at least 13 years old.
Live streaming on TikTok not for everyone
To protect underage users from unwanted content, TikTok periodically announces the implementation of a set of new security features. A few days ago, the online giant communicated that starting November 23, live broadcasts, which are a key part of the app’s operations, will only be allowed to be conducted by adult creators. This is quite a change, since until now the live function was used by all TikTok account holders with a minimum of 1,000 followers and at least 16 years of age. What’s more, Internet users during the broadcast — thanks to the new feature — will be able to automatically block and delete comments after a word they don’t like.
“We want our community to take advantage of most of the live streaming features without compromising security”, the announcement reads.
TikTok has also announced that in a few weeks it will introduce an option to mark selected material for adults only. Rest assured — this does not mean, however, that inappropriate content will appear in the app. Under the current regulations, nudity, erotica and pornography are still prohibited.
For example, a comedy show is better suited for people over the age of 18. Or a creator may be planning a talk about difficult life experiences and prefer it to be available only to adults, it was noted.
